Hats Off to
Literacy!
October 2nd,
2003

We had a full crowd for this year's Literacy Night!

First, we listened to Mr. Holmes talk about the standards and read a
book called Me First!

It was about a pig named Pinkerton who always wanted to be FIRST and
his troubles with a Sand Witch.
It is written by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger.

Next, Ms. Fusco and Mrs. Medina read Caps for Sale! in English
and Spanish.
The author and illustrator is Esphyr Slobodkina.
This story was about some mischevious monkeys who took the peddler's
caps.

A raffle followed the story. The winners got to pick out free
books!

Finally, we got to pick out books and read them with our
families.

Some of us read with sisters,

others with friends,

Some of us read with our mothers,

and some read with our fathers.

We really had a great time reading!

Some even brought their whole family, like our teacher Mrs.
Rodriguez!

We love Literacy Night!
